In an era of rapid digital healthcare advancement, National Cheng Kung University Hospital (NCKUH) upholds a people-centered philosophy of care. The hospital integrates smart technologies into frontline clinical practice. These efforts effectively reduce nurses’ workload and enhance patients’ healthcare experiences. They also improve the overall quality of medical care. Recently, guided by clinical needs and strong institutional support, the Department of Nursing launched two smart care initiatives: upgrading automated physiological data transmission devices and implementing automatic uploads of height and weight data. These initiatives have established a new paradigm for one-step, automated smart care through seamless integration of physiological data.
With upgraded automated physiological data devices, each nurse now uses a dedicated measurement device. The system automatically uploads patient vital signs—body temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation—right after measurement. This eliminates manual transcription delays and errors improving data accuracy and speed. At the same time, automatic height and weight uploads also integrate new or regularly assessed patients' information directly into the electronic medical record system. This enable paperless management and provides reliable data for medication safety and clinical decisions.
This advanced healthcare application is not just a technological upgrade. It also brings a meaningful transformation of clinical care workflows. For patients, the measurement process becomes more efficient. Wait times are shorter, and access to medical information is quicker. For nurses, automated measurement and data uploading systems significantly reduce the most common administrative tasks. This change frees up more time for patient assessment, communication, and compassionate care. Consequently, this approach enables smart care that balances efficiency with human warmth. It also boosts nurses’ job satisfaction and professional fulfillment.
