Multidisciplinary rounds (MDRs), a model of care focusing on regular patient-centered communication among multidisciplinary clinical medical personnel in intensive care units (ICUs), reportedly improves the treatment outcomes of patients in ICUs. To assist with MDRs, the Surgical Intensive Care Unit team of National Cheng Kung University Hospital (NCKUH) has integrated i-Dashboard, a platform in the form of a customized visualization panel, which supports the following features: (1) key information retrieval and rearrangement, (2) time-series data recording, and (3) large touchscreen display during MDRs. The results of a randomized clinical trial indicated that i-Dashboard increased the efficiency of data collection, enabled clinical medical personnel to comprehensively understand patients’ situations, and contributed to multidisciplinary communication during MDRs through improving communication accuracy and information delivery. In view of the common demand for MDRs in ICUs across all specialties, i-Dashboard can service a niche market as an information processing strategy for MDRs through facilitating effective information retrieval and multidisciplinary communication. With the emergence of a super-aged society in Taiwan, the first geriatric hospital in Taiwan will soon be launched at NCKUH, offering an opportunity to drive social innovation and change. The introduction of i-Dashboard and other smart medical care devices can improve clinical procedures as well as medical personnel’s care for patients, particularly older adults (J Med Internet Res. 2022 24(5):e35981; ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04845698).
