As the only AI Impact Research Center in southern Taiwan, the Center at National Cheng Kung University Hospital (NCKUH) is dedicated to making artificial intelligence a practical and trustworthy tool in everyday clinical care. Since the Ministry of Health and Welfare launched the clinical evidence framework for AI in healthcare, the Center has brought together expertise in health economics, public health, biostatistics, and information technology. Focusing on clinical evidence, it carries out thorough clinical trials and data analyses to assess how safe and effective AI is in actual medical situations.

In cancer care, the center integrates medical imaging with body composition analysis to enable more precise chemotherapy dosing. This approach reduces the risk of treatment-related side effects while maintaining therapeutic effectiveness and quality of life, allowing technology to address patients’ real needs. These efforts demonstrate the evidence-based value of AI in safeguarding patient care while supporting the sustainability of the national health insurance system.

Through collaboration with partner hospitals and multidisciplinary experts, the Center continues to strengthen the AI healthcare ecosystem in southern Taiwan and translates research findings into evidence for health policy and reimbursement evaluation. Looking ahead, the Center remains committed to advancing the “trial–evidence–reimbursement” cycle, deepening clinical AI impact research, and promoting the safe, effective, and affordable integration of AI technologies into healthcare—so that innovation can truly benefit patients and society.
